Seaholm to host second Sadie Hawkins dance

By Victoria Bernstein

On January 31, Seaholm is hosting the Crystal Ball.  The ball is a semi-formal Sadie Hawkins dance and will run from 7:30 to 10:30.  Students will arrive from 7:30 to 8:30 and will stay during the whole of the event. Tickets are $10 in advance and $15 at the door.

Principal Rachel Guinn said she wanted this dance to be different than previous ones.

“We’ve gotten a lot of student feedback that has revealed a desire to have Seaholm students DJ,” Guinn said. “We hired DJ Catalpa.”

Catalpa is the stage name of junior Nolan Baltz.  Along with Baltz, junior Chris Connelly will also perform under the stage name King Spookey.

“[A] 20 to 30 year old dude doesn’t really know what kids want. Kids know what kids want,” Connelly      said.  “Since we’re high school students, we can meet those standards.”

Catalpa specializes in electronic dance music, or EDM, and King Spookey uses mainly hip-hop remixes.

“Even though it’s Sadies music and the girl is supposed to ask the guy, anybody’s welcome to come,” Connelly said. “It’s gonna be a good time. Anybody should come.  Expect a good time, no matter what.  I hope for there to be of unification among the Seaholm students and everyone getting together and dancing.”

There will also be more low key activities in the orchestra room, such as card games and desserts.

“We don’t like to put so much pressure on who asks whom,” Guinn said on the theme of the dance. “We want everyone to come and just have a great time.”
